Voice Over T1

Voice over T1 is the newest standard in the telecommunications industry.  A T1 is a high-speed digital connection that uses fiber to transmit data.  The T1 consists of 24 channels that can be used for voice or data connections.  The T1 transmits at a speed of 1.544 Mbps – faster than most other modem connections.

If you’ve been considering upgrading your business voice connection to a T1 now is the best time to do it.  T1 prices have come down in recent years, partly due to the fact that most central offices have now completed the necessary upgrades to allow for T1 connectivity.   You can now find T1 prices, which are similar to those of the more outdated DSL connections.

The T1 consists of 24 channels, which can be used for voice communications.  The channels are flexible and are used as needed.  This means that your T1 will cover many more individual users than what were needed using standard telephone lines.   For example, a typical company can easily accommodate 50 to 100 users with one T1.  If you have phone-intense operations such as a call center you will likely need to increase this amount.

The voice T1 can be used for both incoming and outgoing calls.  This allows for the most efficient use of the circuit.  You can also use direct inward dial lines over the T1 (DID) that allows users to essentially have their own number that is dialable from the outside.

The voice over T1 uses only two pair of wires and is brought into your telephone room on a fiber optic line and terminated onto a smart jack.  From here all you need to do is extend the circuit into your telephone equipment.  For added security and ease of troubleshooting you can add a customer interface unit called a CSU.

Voice T1 provides a clear, crisp and reliable communication connection.  The T1 is monitored remotely and any problems can often be corrected immediately.  The T1 offers the best solution for your voice communications needs.
