Access Line
Transmission path between a user and a switching center.
Add-on Conference
A service feature that allows an additional party to be added to an established call without attendant assistance.
ADSL
Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line
Modem technology that allows for enhanced and affordable access to the Internet, and a variety of other broadband services over existing copper twisted-pair wire lines, ADSL operates with different data rates in the two directions; for downloading and uploading.
Agent
Person or group that works for and represents another company. Within the telecom industry, agents usually are independent companies or individuals that market the services of a provider.
Analog Switch
Switching equipment designed, designated, or used to connect circuits between users for real-time transmission of analog signals.
Attendant Conference
A provided service feature that allows an attendant to establish a conference connection of three or more users.
Available Line
An idle circuit between two points that is ready for service.
Bandwidth
The difference between the limiting frequencies of a continuous frequency band.
Bandwidth Compression
The reduction of bandwidth needed to transmit a set amount of data in a given time
Broadband
Term for evolving digital technologies that provide consumers a signal-switched facility offering integrated access to voice, high-speed data service, video-demand services, and interactive delivery services
