What is a T1?
A T1 is a high speed digital connection with a capacity of 1.544 Mbps. T1s are typically used for voice, data or both. A T1 has 24 channels. Any telephone in your system can use these channels
How does a T1 work?
A T1 is an engineered circuit. It is brought into your building on a two-pair fiber connection. Each T1 is then terminated onto a smart jack near the telephone system. From there it will be extended into the phone system.
The T1 can be used for both incoming and outgoing calls. You will be able to port your main business telephone number to the T1 allowing you to get more incoming calls into your main telephone number. At the same time, the T1 can easily accommodate between 50 and 100 telephone users.
A T1 can also be used along with DID (direct inward dial) numbers. You can assign a DID number to each telephone station in the system allowing for it to be called directly from the outside. This can often help ease work load of the console operator.
What are the benefits of a T1?
-
Speed – The speed of the T1 allows for clear conversations. The T1 users often report that the sound is much better than that of standard telephone lines.
-
Reliability – T1 lines are extremely reliable. They are monitored at the central office and if a problem is detected it can often be corrected remotely.
-
Cost Savings – Aside from the initial installation costs, the monthly costs are quite competitive. Most companies report seeing a substantial cost savings on their telecommunications costs.
-
Future Growth – The T1 is the standard in business communications. It will poise even small companies to allow for future growth and to take advantage of new features and applications as they become available.
