T1 Connection Speed
T1 Line - Rates low as $359 with loop
T1 connection speed is a matter of attraction for all the internet users. Even before internet, T1 connections fascinated corporate users
since its invention in 1957 by Bell Lab's. Very soon they acquired the name of DS1, the Digital Signal. T1 stands for Trunk Level 1. since its
invention T1 lines has become the synonym for high speed dedicated voice and data transfer.
T1 connection speed is provided in more than one ways. It can be either provided in channel format or in non channel format, as a raw stream. But
in North America it is provided into channelized format alone. Each T1 line consists of 24 56/64 kbps channels. Both voice and data can be
transmitted through these channels. Each channel is capable of carrying one conversation.
It must be made clear that T-1 alone is not a service. It's simply a means of
connecting your home or office to the ISP.
T1 connections typically operates at a speed of 1.54 Mbps. It is the full speed of a full channel T1 connection. A full channel T1 is also known
as a clear channel connection. A fractional T1 connection also operates at a great speed of 384 kbps, 512kbps or 768kbps depending upon your
request.
The best thing about a T1 connection is that it can carry both voice and data simultaneously. Certain devices are required by T1 circuits to
convert distinguish different signals. Technically this is called as demultiplexing. Multiplexing is the phenomenon of inter-mixing many signals
that can be sent over a single channel. Demultiplexing is the reverse process of multiplexing.
Integrated T1 is most commonly found for large corporate houses and banks. It is simpler than having different lines for voice or data. T1
service can be provided from the telephone company office to channel bank (industry name CSU/DSU or T1 cards).
Voice services of T1 lines are terminated into phone lines and data service
jacks are located separately. There are many benefits of using integrated T1 Channels as they help in lowering the price for long distance calls,
they provide additional lines for making calls and most importantly both voice and data can be bundled in one line.
People often ask whether Frame Relay, VPN, Dedicated Internet and T1 lines mean
the same thing. Well the answer is that all of these technologies uses T1 connections to make their respective service possible, however all of
them differ from each other.
Due to its characteristic high speed, a T1 line can be used for connecting one point to another line, which is commonly known as private network.
They are also used for connecting two points in a secured manner to form a secured network like in frame relay. Another usage of T1 line is to
connect a point to public network like internet. T1 lines are also used for providing high speed, reliable and dedicated voice networks.
