MCI is a former telecommunications provider located in the United States. MCI was started out as MCI Communications. It joined
with LDDS WorldCom, a leading long distance provider. The name was changed to MCI WorldCom. In 1999 the company joined with
Sprint, another leading broadband and wireless provider. Later the company dropped both Sprint and WorldCom from its name and became
known as MCI.
MCI was a leading provider of broadband and wireless products and services. They were known worldwide as an innovative leader in the
telecommunications industry. The company piloted many cutting edge technologies for business communications.
MCI provided both residential and commercial service along with wireless. Their specialty was broadband services. They offered a
wide array of products and bundles to provide corporate and business customers with many service choices. They offered DSL, ISDN, T1 and
even VoIP product lines.
MCI business accounts assigned a business account representative to their clients to help determine their specific needs. MCI strived
for good customer service and products that were good choices for their customers.
MCI often partnered with other large companies to produce cutting edge products. They worked with Microsoftâ to merge Windows Live
Messenger with their VoIP product calling it “MCI Web Calling”. This product is now marketed with the name “Verizon Web Calling”.
Product offerings included long distance service, Internet service, high-speed voice service and wireless, all of which could be provided on a
single bill. MCI unfortunately declared bankruptcy and was eventually acquired by Verizon in early 2006.
