“Lines Of Communication: ISDN Vs. T1″
T1 Internet Rates low as $289 with loop
In reviewing the best option between telecommunication services for businesses, the question often comes up regarding ISDN vs. T1 communication lines. Of course, the answer is going to depend on several factors that will be examined here. One of the first questions to be addressed is what types of telecommunication services are available in your area or to your business? This is probably the most important concern when discussing ISDN vs. T-1.
ISDN has been available since the early 1990s as a standard in the telecommunications industry, and for many years, was the only digital option available. T1 lines are becoming more common, and are often replacing the ISDN in many businesses, but there are still some areas where this service may not be available to the customer.
ISDN vs. T1
Once that it is determined that T1 access is available as well as ISDN, it then comes down to a determination of which will best suit the telecommunication needs of your business as compared to the costs involved. The first assumption that needs to be made in this case, is that the telecommunications needs of the business has not already exceeded the capabilities of ISDN transfer rates.
An ISDN produces transfer rates of 128 Kilobytes per second (Kbps), with potentials of up to 512 Kbps, dependent upon the way the system is structured. T1 access exceeds these transfer rates at a level of 1.54 megabytes per second (Mbps). Both systems require special lines to be installed, and dedicated equipment for use. On the other hand, T1s are charged at a high, monthly flat rate for the telecommunication services access. ISDN rates are much, much lower, but often involve per minute charges in addition to the flat monthly rate.
The best determining factor in making the decision between ISDN vs. T1 accesses, is going to be the availability and demands of the business, versus the varying cost factors involved. Only you can make the decision of which is best suited to your telecommunication services needs.
