DS3 is a telecommunications line that is able to handle many types of applications.  Also known as a T3, it is a digital communications link, which supports voice and/or data at a speed of about 3Mbps to 45 Mbps.  This bandwidth can easily support many intensive applications simultaneously. 

DS3 rates can vary widely based on the type of line you get.  DS3 service allows for selection of full or fractional service.  This means that you can split the service between voice and data.  A single DS3 consists of 672 channels which each support a speed of 64Kbps. 

DS3 service is configured for large applications and ISPs.  The DS3 provides a stable and reliable backbone for any network.  DS3 support is typically very high quality.  Any problems with the circuits are usually transparent to the users and are often able to be repaired remotely. 

DS3 customers are usually high profile accounts that are given high priority for service.  The DS3 circuits are constantly monitored at the central office and any failures are reported and corrected immediately.  Additionally, DS3 customers are given escalation resources. 

DS3 rates are often quite competitive.  Prepare to pay for installation costs, which can vary greatly but are usually rather high.  This is because the DS3 circuits must be properly engineered.  Allow at least several months from start to finish.  DS3 customers must also sign lease agreements, which may vary in length.  Usually the best deals can be had on the longer lease agreements.  Typical DS3 customers enjoy a large savings over other standard types of telecommunications lines.
