Data centers are said to be the brain and heart of the World Wide Web. They are the home of all the devices that attend to the needs of the internet and all other forms of networking. In a literal sense, they really play the part of being the house of such devices. Data centers are actually a composition of infrastructures and their sheltered computing equipments.

Data centers not only house various devices, but they also make sure they are functioning properly. Technological devices, as we all know are comprised of mechanical parts that are highly reactive to the state of the environment.

Air condition, for instance, is essential in data centers because it maintains the required temperature and humidity. When these factors are not controlled, the servers may go haywire and start malfunctioning. If the temperature is high, there is a tendency that the devices might overheat and burn. If the humidity is low, production of static electricity may occur which would end up damaging the equipments.

Servers, the main equipments being stored in data centers, are the service providers that perform specific tasks asked by clients. On the account of being used for the internet, these servers are the ones responsible for all data transfers.

Millions, probably billions, of these data transactions happen every minute of every single day of our lives. Some examples you may be familiar with are the E-mail services that you use to send messages to your relatives, the online games that you play with friends and even random strangers, the streaming of videos and songs that you enjoy when you get bored, and all those website pages that you like reading from.

Efficient data centers are the ones you should thank for all these wonderful internet services. However, data centers and servers have a lot more duties than those you personally experience. They are the ones being relied upon by big-time enterprises and companies that give us all of our other needs. These establishments depend on data centers to provide them their networking needs.

Recently, there has been a project proposed to apply the highly efficient networking technology of Ethernet to data centers. Because of the Ethernet technology’s reliable form data transmitting at speeds that can even reach 10Gbit per second, it is the top choice for networking enhancements.

On the account of data centers, the application of Ethernet would not only improve the Internet speed that we get to experience, but all those individual private and public establishments that make use such data centers as well.

With this movement, there have been two names developed to be used for the final product. Data Center Ethernet was the multinational corporation Cisco’s term for the project. The proposed completed output was supposed to be patterned from the proposal of Transparent Interconnection of Lots of Links.

The other term, Converged Enhanced Ethernet, was the name given by its authors which comprises of experts from more than 50 different information technology companies. This version was said to be highly patterned from the IEEE 802.1 Working Groups plans.

Data centers are definitely essential for both small and large groups of people. If done successfully, the application of the Ethernet technology will surely improve our lives in almost all kinds of ways. Now, establishments that uses data centers such as banks, telecommunications companies, and all other types will have better services to offer each and every one of us.
