Broadband Phone Service Review
Broadband phone service is changing the way that we look at phone service as a whole. This relatively new technology is rapidly becoming the norm in many homes across the world. It allows a caller to make long distance calls without having to pay much, or anything for them. The technology that makes this possible is called voice over internet protocol, or VOIP. When you combine the VOIP technology with a broadband, or high speed, internet access line, and broadband phone service provides a fast, inexpensive way to make phone calls all over the world.
With traditional phone service, your long distance phone calls are routed from your local provider’s network to your chosen long distance provider’s network, where it is routed to the receiving party’s local phone provider’s network and finally, to their home phone line. Since multiple providers were involved, multiple providers charged a fee for the call, which the long distance provider passed on to you in the form of an often hefty per-minute charge. But broadband phone service has changed all of that.
Broadband phone service, using VOIP technology, removes the long distance company from the equation, making a long distance phone call virtually the same as a local phone call. How? By using the internet as the routing method that passes the call from your local phone provider to your receiving party’s local phone provider. You initiate the call, and your analog voice signal is translated into a digital signal.
With broadband phone service, the call is sent as quickly as it once was across the long distance phone provider’s network. The fact is, many long distance companies have been using broadband phone service and VOIP to route calls across their network for several years because it is so low cost. It eliminates the need to have costly, hard-to-maintain hardwired connections for calls.
It is important to remember, however, that it is still possible to incur some small charges when using broadband phone service. If the local phone provider at the other end of your call is not equipped for broadband phone calls with VOIP, your call may be routed to the nearest phone center that is. Then you would be charged for the cost, if any, of getting the call from that phone center to your recipient’s phone. Also, broadband phone service charges from your service provider will be more than what you pay for local service.
However, there’s no telling if that will continue to be the case as demand for the service widens the number of competitors who want your business.
Within the next few years, broadband phone service will change the way that we use telecommunications in the home. Soon it won’t be necessary to worry about whether or not you’re making a long distance call – you’ll simply use your broadband phone service for all your calling needs.
