T1 T3 Internet Connections
T3
lines are also known as DS3
lines. They are the high speed or we can say advanced
version of traditional T1 internet connection types. It is a
super high speed connection having the unmatched capacity of
carrying forty five million bytes per second (45 MBPS). At this
speed of 45 MBPS, a T3 connection is well equipped to transmit
heavy payloads such as a complete movie, any real time video,
and exceptionally large data bases even at the time of very
busy hours.
Unlike T1
lines that are equally used for domestic and commercial
usages, a T3 line is
used by very large corporate houses, universities which thrive
for high speed dedicated connections capable of handling their
exceptional bandwidth demands. You would be surprised to know
that a T3 line can handle traffic equivalent to 672 analogue or
traditional telephone lines.
If we talk about non optical internet connections used in North
America, A T3 connection is the second fastest internet
connection available. As told earlier, T3 connections are
advanced types of T1 internet lines. What actually a T3 line is
an assembly or group of T1 lines. Each T3 line consists of 28
T1 lines. Signaling speed of each T1 line is 1.544 MBPS that
makes a T3 line of 45 MBPS (28 x 1.544 MBPS)
Next question that might come to your mind is the
difference between T1 and T3 lines.
Well primarily it's the speed and cost that differentiate
the two connections. T1 connections are much cheaper than the
T3 lines. The running cost of a T1 line is less that $900 per
month whereas a T3 line costs in the vicinity of $15000 per
month.
But it is the speed of a T3 line that makes it far better
and costlier than the T1 lines. They are the exclusively high
speed and bandwidth lines in the carrier's backbone network.
All of the T3 lines come with a Service Level Agreement
promising best performance and uptime.
T3 internet connection is gaining much popularity as it is the
ideal solution for businesses that need super high speed
internet connectivity. Firms that host high end traffic web
sites, web hosting support sites. But it happens all the time
that a firm needs a bandwidth greater than T1 lines but they
don't need a T3 line.
Fractional T3 lines can provide the speed of 3 MBPS to 45
MBPS. A fractional T3 line is similar to a T3 line but the only
difference is that some channels of it are turned off.
